Telemedicine Technology: Bridging the Technology Gap
|
| |
|
Using
the traditional ATA Fall Forum format, technology product & service
providers and end users have convened for a two-day symposium
to discuss
technology issues and how to collaborate on solutions that
will move the industry ahead.
Individual program administrators and
end users
Through expert lectures about planning and selecting appropriate
technology and networks, to hands-on technology demonstrations,
to advice from experienced peers, attendees will leave the
meeting with new practical knowledge about the world of telemedicine
technology.
Engineers and technologists
Technical sessions will address the broad spectrum of telemedicine
technology from interactive video and peripherals, to networking
and communications, to health information infrastructure. Current
and emerging technology issues will be explored through
expert panels and facilitated exercises of service providers
and end users.
Product and service providers
Companies will display technology products around the periphery
of the meeting room for “hands on” demonstrations
in the ATA Telemedicine Technology Center. Attendees
can operate products and learn how various technologies
can be used in a clinical setting.

Alternative
Perspectives: Thinking Outside the Box
The rapid advancement and diffusion of personal
computing, internetworking, communications, and
consumer electronics technologies have catalyzed
fundamental changes in the workplace and society.
However, technology-driven changes have been more
incremental in the health care and telemedicine
industry. Leaders from other technologically-advanced
industries will offer their perspectives to provide
an alternative vision for the future of telehealth.

Developing
Industry Standards for Telemedicine: A Joint Forum
Sponsored by ATA and the U.S. National Institutes
of Standards and Technology
A recent U.S. Department of Commerce report on
telemedicine concluded that the development of
industry-wide standards will significantly help
resolve interoperability issues, support evidence-based
practices, lower purchasing costs, assure compliance
and promote the rapid development of telemedicine.
This innovative, facilitated session will be conducted
in a "Fish-Bowl" format with a diverse
group of telemedicine technology developers and
users/consumers to discuss "technical and
operational gaps" and to develop a blueprint
for design priorities of the future. It marks
the start of a collaborative initiative between
ATA, the National Institute of Standards adn Technology
and the new U.S. Measurement Systems Initiative
to identify and resolve critical technical and
operational barriers facing telemedicine.
