Full-day comprehensive course, developed under the auspices of the ATA Educational Committee in cooperation with ATA's Special Interest Groups, will provide attendees with an unprecedented opportunity to learn practical applications in developing and implementing telemedicine applications. These courses are offered on Sunday, May 7.The faculty of these courses is composed of leading experts in each field.

The UC Davis Center for Health and Technology is a world-recognized telehealth and telemedicine program providing clinical telemedicine services, distance education, telemedicine training, and informatics resources services since 1992. The current UC Davis telehealth network includes over sixty sites throughout California.

By the end of this course, attendees will:

  • Be able to define the benefits associated with a number of telehealth applications
  • Understand basic technology terminology associated with telemedicine
  • Be able to discuss the key legal, regulatory and strategic planning aspects of launching a telemedicine program
  • Be able to describe the operational considerations and implementation challenges associated with project management
 

Decoding Telemental Health: What You Need to Know About Telemental Health from Concept to Implementation

This course will cover telemental health from the early stages through current state-of-the art. Areas of focus will include various clinical venues such as children, adults, the elderly, and military populations. Emphasis will be on patient selection and clinical assessment via telemental health applications and current research in the field. A panel of telemental health experts will discuss “lessons learned” and demonstrate (role play) a telemental health consultation between clinician and patient using current telemedicine technologies.

By the end of this course, attendees will:

  • Better understand the types of clinical applications and considerations that are commonly used in telemental health.
  • Be able to describe the practice of telemental health for different patient populations.
  • Gain an understanding of operational and implementation issues associated with telemental health.
  • Learn the basics to conduct a telemental health consultation.
