We will elaborate on the need for this assessment of the USMS and will describe the process NIST plans to use in doing the assessment.  This assessment, conducted in collaboration with industry, academia and other government agencies, will yield an action-plan roadmap. The planned information collection and analysis processes will be outlined.  Specific actions include: NIST will publish a U.S. Measurement System Roadmap; NIST is reaching out to top customers and stakeholders; Businesses, trade associations, professional groups and other organizations are encouraged to identify and advise NIST of pressing measurement infrastructure needs and gaps in their particular areas.
