The 12th Annual International Meeting of the American Telemedicine Association took place at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, May 13-15, 2007. Over 2000 attendees from every corner of the United States and 43 other countries were present. The University of South Florida offered Continuing Education Credits for meeting attendees.

 
 
 
 

More than 300 peer-reviewed oral and poster presentations covered 21 broad subject areas within six tracks as well as a series of exhibitor/customer case studies.  Expanded roundtable sessions enhanced the Monday morning educational experience

Sunday's Telemedicine Continuing Education Certificate Courses offered in-depth and up-to-date education and strategies for physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, engineers, program administrators, and anyone involved in the delivery of telemedical care and telehealth.

ATA President Richard Bakalar, MD, opened the meeting at a plenary on Sunday afternoon. The opening session included the keynote presentation by Jack La Lanne, often called the Godfather of Fitness who opened the first modern health spa in the United States in 1936, and in 1951, brought exercise to TV. Although now into his 90s, Jack looks 50. He and his wife Elaine speak all over the world, inspiring people to help themselves to a better life, physically, mentally, and morally. Jack has joined forces with Body Incorporated and its elite team of corporate trainers to take his potent directives to the business community.

Monday's general session included the Kenneth Bird Annual Distinguished Lecture given this year by Jonathan B. Perlin, MD, PhD, MSHA, FACP ,Chief Medical Officer & Senior Vice President

Quality HCA, Inc., Nashville, TN.  COL Jonathan Jaffin, MD, Commander, U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, also addressed the meeting and presented the Thurman Award to Seong Ki Mun, PhD, Professor of Radiology & Director of the Imaging Science and Information System (ISIS) Research Center, Georgetown University Medical Center.

Tuesday's Annual Policy Breakfast and Business meeting included remarks by the ATA leadership and an update on the state of the Association by ATA Executive Director Jonathan D. Linkous. Reports were provided from each of the SIGs and the meeting ended with remarks from Hon S. Pak, LTC, MC, USA, Director, Advanced Information Technology Group (AITG); U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command; Telemedicine & Advanced Research Center (TATRC);  the incoming President of ATA.

ATA is planning on a number of educational events over the next year. The 2008 Annual Meeting will be held  April 6-9, 2008 at the Seattle Convention Center in Seattle, WA.
