  • ATA Submits Comments to Louisiana, Ohio and North Carolina Public Officials on Telemedicine Guidance

    State legislatures are winding down this time of year, but their regulatory counterparts have been working overtime on policy changes that affect telemedicine. At least 11 eleven state agencies have proposed policies that would affect payment for services via telemedicine, or scope of practice for licensed providers.

  • Update on CMS Payment Decisions - Two Steps Forward, One Back

    On Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) announced the latest decisions of the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare (CMS) regarding funding for remote patient services. As announced, starting in January 2015 CMS agreed with ATA’s prior request to reimburse, as a telehealth service, seven new covered services for telehealth including annual wellness visits, psychotherapy services, and prolonged services in the office.

  • ATA Launches First China Telemedicine Meeting

    ATA kicked off the Opening Ceremonies of the First China International Telemedicine Technology Meeting today in Tianjin. Dozens of distinguished Chinese government and industry officials joined ATA leadership to launch the meeting and extend their support for the partnership. The meeting is being covered by major media in China and is being followed closely by health professionals and the medical technology industry at large.

  • State Legislators Receive ATA’s Telemedicine Grades, Offer Bills Aimed at Improvement

    Around the country, state law and policymakers have been responding to ATA’s recently released gaps reports that graded each state on their telemedicine policies. In addition to their state’s respective grades, many lawmakers have expressed interest in specific issues concerning coverage and reimbursement, privacy and security, and licensure portability. State lawmakers at the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislatures Executive Meeting were presented with the gaps reports last week.

    The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) today released two critical state policy reports which identify gaps in coverage and reimbursement, and in physician practice standards and licensure. These first-of-their-kind reports identify and compare state policies on a report card, assigning each state grades ranging from A-to-F based on telemedicine reimbursement and physician practice standards.
