Recognized throughout the world as the primary forum for the telemedicine industry, ATA’s peerreviewed educational program sets the standard for continuing medical education on the topics of telemedicine and telehealth. We invite you to submit an abstract to be considered for inclusion in the ATA 2011 Sixteenth Annual International Meeting and Exposition educational program. Continuing medical education will be offered through USF Health.

We invite abstracts on any topic relating to telemedicine and telehealth, however, abstracts that focus on outcomes and evidence, best practices and emerging applications for telemedicine and telehealth are of particular interest and will be highlighted in the 2011 program. Specific high priority areas of interest include health information exchange (HIE) and mobile health (mHealth). See further details on topic areas below.
   

 
Important Notes

  • Abstracts must be submitted by September 15, 2010 using the online submission form. Submissions received by fax or mail will not be accepted.
  • Speakers associated with any abstract submission (e.g. individual oral, individual poster, discussion panel, presentation panel and pre-meeting courses) are required to submit a disclosure statement with the submission. Panel and pre-meeting course submissions must include disclosure forms for all speakers and moderator(s) associated with the abstract. The disclosure statement is part of the online submission form and must be filled out for an abstract submission to be complete.
  • Speakers selected for individual oral, individual poster, discussion panel, or presentation panel presentations will have a specified amount of time to make the presentation on the topic area detailed in the abstract proposal.
  • Upon notification, speakers will have 3 weeks to confirm participation in the 2011 ATA Annual Meeting.
  • All speakers will be required to pay a full registration fee for the meeting. If a speaker is unable to attend the conference, ATA must be informed immediately. Substitutions must be approved in advance by ATA.
  • ATA reserves the right to make editorial revisions to an abstract in an effort to get the abstract ready for publication.
  • ATA reserves the right to record presentations at the 2011 Annual Meeting for dissemination and/or sale on any media after the meeting.
  • Abstracts and presentations must adhere to ACCME standards and may not be commercial in nature.

Presentation Formats

The educational program for ATA 2011 will include five presentation formats:

1. Individual Oral Presentation
Stand-alone, independent presentation (not a panel presentation) to be placed within a concurrent session and track. Presenter is allotted 15 minutes, with 10 minutes for presentation time and 5 minutes for Q&A. Only one presenter per abstract. 2. Individual Poster Presentation
Scientific Posters are displayed for two days with a Poster Session on Monday, May 2, 2011 allowing for discussion between the presenter and meeting attendees. Poster presenters will be provided with a poster board that is 4 feet wide by 8 feet high with a table for handout materials. Audio-visual support is not provided for poster presentations. The ATA Peer Review Committee reserves the right to accept a poster submission as an oral presentation. Posters will be judged by a committee at the meeting and recognition will be given to the top five posters. Posters are also eligible for the People's Choice Award. 3. Discussion Panel
Facilitated discussion of 2-5 experts on a related topic. Moderator leads discussion and Q&A with panel members in this interactive format. The total session time is 60 minutes including a minimum time of 15 minutes allotted for panelists to answer questions from the audience. No formal presentations are made by the panelists in this format. Click here to submit a Discussion Panel abstract.

4. Presentations Panel
Moderated panel of three individuals presenting on related topics. Each speaker is allotted 15 minutes for his/her presentation. The total session time is 60 minutes including 15 minutes allotted at the end of the session for panelists to answer questions from the audience.  Click here to submit a Presentation Panel abstract.

5. Pre-Meeting Course
Pre-meeting courses may be full-day or half-day certificate courses on Sunday, May 1, 2011. Full-day courses begin at 8:00am and end at 3:00pm with a one-hour break for lunch between 11:00am-12:00pm. Half-day courses that are selected are placed in a morning or afternoon time slot as follows: morning course from 8:00am-11:00am or afternoon course from 12:00pm-3:00pm. Pre-Meeting Course proposals must include: course title, course description (300 words or less), 3-5 course objectives, course moderator’s name and contact information, complete list of faculty including contact information, bio (100 words maximum in length) and completed disclosure statement for each faculty person listed in the proposal. Contact information for moderator and faculty must include: name, credentials, title, organization, city, state, zip code, phone, fax, email. Incomplete proposals will not be

Presentation Categories

1. Outcomes and Evidence for Telemedicine and Telehealth
Describe a scientific project or research effort based on completed studies that follow rigorous scientific principles (control group, sizable number of participants) and include outcomes data with critical findings in the field. Special consideration will be given to innovative research abstracts that address ATA’s research recommendations.

Outcomes presentations that adhere to the following will be highlighted in the ATA 2010 program:

• Case studies with number of subjects that is greater than 10
• Indicates actual number of subjects that have already completed the study
• If in progress, indicates total number of subjects that data is still being collected on
• Indicates the type of statistical analyses conducted
• Results include actual data (no anticipated results may be presented)
• Results of statistical tests are highly encouraged

2. Best Practices for Telemedicine and Telehealth
Describes a best practice or guideline for telemedicine and telehealth services (e.g. method, protocol or innovative process, etc) and provides an explanation about the purpose, effectiveness, impact on quality of care, and lessons learned when the best practice is
employed.

Best Practices presentations that adhere to the following will be highlighted in the ATA 2010 program:

• Indicates best practice or guideline that has been used for at least one year
• Indicates best practice or guideline that been used for a minimum of 25 patients

3. Emerging Applications
Describes an innovative or emerging application of telemedicine and telehealth (e.g. clinical, technology, etc) which represents a progressive development in the industry.

4. Other
Describes abstract proposals that do not fall within presentation categories 1-3 listed above.
