Medicare's Health Support: New Horizons
Section 721 of the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 (MMA) authorized development and testing of a voluntary Chronic Care Improvement Program, now called Medicare Health Support, to improve the quality of care and life for people living with multiple chronic illnesses. The programs will help participants adhere to their physicians' plans of care and obtain the medical care they need to reduce their health risks.

The Telemedicine/Telehealth Coalition of Associations
The Telemedicine/Telehealth Coalition of Associations is an informal and broad-based group of organizations that represent constituents with an interest in telemedicine. The American Telemedicine Association is building relationships among other stakeholders within the healthcare industry to better understand the needs of all we serve and to promote telemedicine/telehealth. This has been a long-standing priority of the ATA and is fundamental to the mission of the Association. This group of association representatives will discuss issues related to home telehealth, remote monitoring and aging.

Serving the Consumer: Older Adults and Technology
Technology is being used to transform the way consumers access and use healthcare and related information services from home. AARP's "Older, Wiser, Wired" initiative brings together developers, designers, engineers, researchers, and older adults themselves to make technology easier and more enjoyable to use. This type of effort and the philosophy behind it is critical for those involved in improving health care via home telehealth.

The 2005 White House Conference on Aging
The Role of Technology in Meeting the Healthcare Needs of Older Americans
There are over 44 million adult caregivers in the U.S. providing unpaid care. These and the older adults they care for make up most of the consumers of home telehealth, remote monitoring and related chronic care applications. They provide a unique and growing market with specific needs and interests. One of the important events affecting national policy towards older Americans is the White House Conference on Aging, held every decade. The 2005 White House Conference on Aging occurs as the first wave of the baby boom generation prepares for retirement, creating an important opportunity to creatively assess aging in America and improve the lives of older Americans.
