WASHINGTON – Wednesday, Dec. 18 ,2013 - The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) has become an official partner of XPRIZE regarding the $10 million Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE and $2.5 million Nokia Sensing XCHALLENGE. Both competitions are an effort to capture the imagination of the public, spur innovation, and accelerate the rate of positive change in accessing and delivering healthcare.
The Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE is a 3.5-year global competition that will award $10 million to teams that develop a consumer-friendly device capable of diagnosing a set of 15 conditions and capturing 5 vital metrics for health. The $2.25 million Nokia Sensing XCHALLENGE is two global competitions to develop sensing technologies that capture meaningful data about a consumer’s health status, surrounding environment and risk of developing a health condition. Nanobiosym Health RADAR was awarded the $520,000 Grand Prize for Competition #1 in October 2013. Registration for Competition #2 is currently open. “The need for new approaches to diagnose and deliver health care is critical, and the innovations developed through these competitions are just what the doctor ordered,” said Don Jones, vice president of global strategy and market development for Qualcomm Life, Inc. and ATA board member.
ATA’s goal with the partnership is to help the registered teams competing for the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE, and both competitions of the Nokia Sensing XCHALLENGE better understand the business and clinical processes required to successfully take their innovations to market. Teams will be offered a free membership in ATA and the opportunity to display their innovation at the upcoming ATA Annual Meeting and Tradeshow on May 18-20, 2014, in Baltimore, Md.
“This is another perfect opportunity for ATA to provide insight and guidance that will help bring innovative ideas into the healthcare marketplace,” added Jonathan Linkous, CEO of ATA.
