Both competitions are an effort to capture the imagination of the public, spur innovation, and accelerate the rate of positive change in accessing and delivering healthcare.

  • ATA Developing Accreditation of Online Medical Services

    The Board of Directors of the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) has approved the development of an accreditation program for providers of online medical consultations. The program will be based on guidelines codifying best practices and confer ATA’s official recognition of providing organizations who meet the guidelines established in the accreditation.

  • ATA Thankful for Proposed Telehealth Expansions in Medicare

    Medicare beneficiaries received good news on the eve of Thanksgiving as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services approved several changes expanding coverage of telehealth services starting January 2014. The new policies were established in response to proposals by the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) and several of the association’s members last year.

    Over the past few weeks, a peer-review and program committee, along with ATA staff, have been going through hundreds of presentation proposals for the 2014 Annual Meeting. Over 400 presentations will be selected for the meeting covering mHealth, remote monitoring, business planning and financing, technology and consumer-focused care, public policy as well as the use of telemedicine for many medical specialty services.

  • Oklahoma Medical Board Incorporates ATA Guidelines in Proposed Rules

    The Oklahoma Medical Board has taken action on their telemedicine related rulemaking. On November 7, the Oklahoma Medical Board adopted a regulation that, in part, creates an exception for an otherwise required face-to-face encounter for a "Telemedicine physician who meet the criteria set out in OAC 435: 10-7-13 of this Subchapter."
