Building a Network: Diabetic Retinopathy and Tele-Ophthalmology

Retinal tele-screening is an emerging strategy for providing diabetic retinopathy (DR) evaluations in the primary care setting. When implemented in the primary care setting, telemedicine for DR evaluation may be an effective intervention for reaching rural and underserved patients.

The webinar will provide a brief overview of the UNC teleophthalmology program and outcomes. The presenter will give a detailed description of their implementation challenges and how they were overcome utilizing resources such as GIS mapping in determining access to care. Areas for further research will be discussed followed by a brief Q&A.
