Infectious Disease Telemedicine Reduced a 6-week Stay to Several Days

An elderly patient with stage IV prostate cancer contracted a bacterial infection while on vacation, requiring a six-week hospital stay away from home – and his needed cancer treatment. The local oncologist recommended an alternative treatment plan that allowed the patient and his wife to return home to Massachusetts rather than stay in the hospital in South Carolina for a protracted time. Infectious Disease Telemedicine reduced a six-week hospital stay to several days.
